Steve qualified at Birmingham in 1986 and his career experience include multi-disciplined corporate practices in Birmingham and Bristol and private practices in Jersey and Guernsey dealing in large retail and office developments along with conversion and housing for private clients as well as national house builders.
His wide range of experience has been instrumental in expanding the practice and is behind our many projects where analysis, understanding and delivery strategy have been key.
When not working Steve takes the opportunity to play golf and badminton. He is Chairman of the Ashton Windmill Custodian Committee.

Oliver joined Hill Reading in 2011, after graduating from the University of Plymouth earlier that year. He undertook a Professional Diploma in Architecture at the Centre for Alternative Technology based in Wales where there is a strong emphasis on sustainable architecture and building design.
Oli qualified as an Architect in July 2018 and became a Director of the company in the same year.
Working on projects from extensions to housing developments, and bespoke homes to multi-million pound equestrian facilities, Oli takes projects from inception to construction and hand over.
Oli oversees the day to day running of the practice and will be one of your first points of contact for new enquiries.

James joined Hill Reading Architects in September 2019. James qualified as an architect in March 2022 and obtained RIBA chartership in May 2022. He achieved a Masters Degree in Architecture at UWE, Bristol and a Undergraduate degree in Architecture at Plymouth University.
Whilst working on a wide variety of project sectors, James specialises in residential architecture from extensions to new builds and has a particular interest in acoustics.
In the office, James manages project resourcing and technology.
Outside of work, James plays piano, draws and dabbles in writing.
Wendy has been with the practice in its various guises for rather more years than she cares to admits. She carries out all administration duties, answers the phone and is our client liaison contact and resident agony aunt.
Adrian has 8 years experience in planning consultancy and joined Hill Reading Architects in October 2016. He currently manages the planning consultancy within the practice and specialises in resolving planning issues through his extensive experience and connections with local planning authorities.
Amongst his daily schedule Adrian manages a range of projects both domestic and commercial including planning pre-application enquiries, applications, appeals, prior notifications and permitted development enquiries. His experience has been central to the development of the planning consultancy within the practice.
MSc Spatial Planning and Development
Maddie joined Hill Reading Architects in February 2021 having just completed her MSc in Spatial Planning and Development at Cardiff University. Maddie brought an array of knowledge in planning, design and drawing, having used AutoCAD previously throughout her degree. Her desire to enter the planning industry was fuelled during her undergraduate degree in Human Geography, where she studied the importance of infrastructure, mobilities and how the built environment shapes our lives.
Maddie currently provides planning support, advice and liaison with planning authorities on pre-application enquiries and full planning applications. Maddie also applies her knowledge of master planning and drawing into her work, by delving into the design process of architecture; She is able to produce concept site plans and in-depth master plans, as well as work with others to produce high quality plans for our clients.
Maddie is currently working towards gaining her chartership within the RTPI to eventually become a chartered planner.
Outside of work, Maddie enjoys baking and fitness.
Joji Mathew joined Hill Reading Architects in October 2016 having worked at Pointcloud Consult and Wright Associates Ltd in his role as an Architectural Technician. When the practice merged with Hill Reading, Joji continued his role as a Senior Architectural Technician and uses his knowledge and experience in planning and the Building Regulations to complete various projects.
After completion of his professional qualifications, Joji started working in a small practice in India in 1993, and worked on various projects in the Middle East, mainly Saudi Arabia and Qatar between 1994 and 2005, specialising in both commercial and residential projects.
Outside work, Joji enjoys playing badminton, watching movies and cricket.
PGDip Advn'ced Enviroment & Energy Studies. C&G Eng, CIAT
Nick joined Hill Reading Architects in 2020 and brings an extensive amount of knowledge and experience to the company. He has a City & Guilds in Engineering and more recently gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Environmental & Energy Studies with the UEL. Nick has worked in most sectors over the years with house developing being his core subject.
Outside of work he enjoys most sports and is an enthusiastic runner. When he is not running you may also find him behind a drum kit.
B.Arch (UFS) M.Arch (TUT) SACAP
Brie joined Hill Reading Architects in 2021. With experience as an Architect, Project Manager and in Sustainable Design, as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Brie has managed the successful development of buildings over commercial, residential and leisure sectors.
Brie is registered as an Architect at the South African Institute of Architects. She has gained most of her experience in corporate firms in Plymouth, Bristol and Johannesburg.
Maciej joined Hill Reading Architects in March 2017. He gained his Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning abroad in Poland. He started his career as a CAD Assistant in 2014 working across various sectors. Since joining Hill Reading Architects, Maciej has been improving his knowledge and skills as an Architectural Assistant.
In his free time Maciej likes to watch a good movie, go for relaxing tours discovering places in Europe, or simply enjoys developing his skills in computer aided design.
Richard attended the City of Bristol College where he completed a National Certificate in Building Studies course and had worked for his previous employer for 17 years.
Outside work, Richard enjoys fishing, watching sport, going on holidays and obviously drawing!

Owen joined Hill Reading Architects in 2021. He graduated from UWE Bristol in 2020 with a BSc (hons) in Architectural Technology & Design.
Kyle joined Hill Reading Architects in October 2020 as an apprentice, keen to learn and get involved with architecture and the built environment.
Outside work, Kyle is an avid footballer, playing for Westfield FC.
Leo joined Hill Reading Architects in September 2020 as an apprentice.
He is currently studying Architecture at the University of Portsmouth, exploring new ideas and getting involved with the built environment through theory and conceptual design work, supplementing the ‘real life’ experiences of working at Hill Reading.
Outside work, Leo plays football for Street FC.
BSc (Hons)
Ricky joined Hill Reading Architects in January 2018, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, Ricky graduated from Birmingham City University in 2011 having completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Architectural Technology.
He has previously worked on a variety of project types and sizes including restoration and remedial works to Church buildings through to large housing developments, including modern methods of construction such as ‘off site construction’.
In His spare time Ricky particular enjoys cycling, walking and property development, and has been known to try and beat colleagues at FIFA.
